Truck entry has slowed while the Nasib gates are rebuilt

Syria's General Authority for Ports and Customs began paving, expansion and rehabilitation works at the Nasib crossing on 23 September 2026, covering internal roads, yards, gates and administrative buildings. No completion date has been given.

On 29 September the head of Jordan's syndicate of clearance and goods-transport companies said trucks were crowding the Jaber yards because the Syrian side was receiving them slowly, one vehicle at a time through a diversion. He estimated that about 200 to 300 trucks were waiting their turn, and described it as slow entry into Syria, not a stop in crossings. We covered this in our 2 October brief.

A new truck area at Jaber

Jordan has equipped a new area at the Jaber border center with the technology needed to speed the entry of commercial trucks from Syria. The acting governor of Mafraq said on 15 September that it holds about 200 loaded trucks, and that an operations room linked to the agencies at the crossing is being set up to cut routine procedures.

Wider truck and bus lanes at Jaber are planned for 2027–2029, under an agreement the two countries signed on 24 November 2025 to expand the crossing on both sides.

Traffic

Why the queue builds quickly

Nasib carries heavy freight. Syria's ports and customs authority counted 50,272 trucks through the crossing from January to the end of May 2026: 18,374 entering Syria and 31,898 leaving it. In November 2025, after earlier works, SANA quoted the crossing's public relations office as saying truck passages had risen to more than 1,300 a day.

With volumes like these, any reduction in gate capacity shows up as waiting time on the Jordanian side within a day or two.

For shippers

How to plan a road shipment from the UAE to Syria now

Our office estimate for the road leg from Jebel Ali to Damascus through Nasib is about 15 days in normal conditions. While the works continue, we suggest planning on that basis and adding a few days of margin at the border, rather than promising a delivery date the crossing may not allow.

Have the documents final before the truck reaches the border: commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin where needed, and the HS codes checked against the Syrian tariff. A file that is complete on arrival does not add customs time to border time.

MIDTRANS runs land freight from the UAE through Saudi Arabia and Jordan to Nasib, with border paperwork and Syrian customs clearance. We check the crossing status before each dispatch and tell you if the timing changes.

  • Plan about 15 days by road, plus border margin
  • Final documents before dispatch
