Oil and gas sector
Oil and Gas Logistics to Syria
Oil and gas equipment for Syria is often heavy, long, regulated or export-controlled. We move it as freight from the manufacturer's works to the Syrian site: export checks, sea, air and road transport, Syrian customs clearance and delivery. We do not provide oilfield services.
From the United States, Canada, Europe, the UAE, Turkey and China
Rotating, static and packaged equipment, pipe and instrumentation, planned from the data sheets.
Vessels, columns and large skids planned from the drawings and lifting points.
Chemicals, gas cylinders, batteries and used equipment checked before booking.
Heavy and breakbulk pieces are generally routed to Tartous, containers to Latakia or Tartous.

Team review before pricing or operationsWe plan heavy pieces from the lifting points and the route to site, not from the vessel schedule.
We move equipment as freight; we do not provide drilling, installation or engineering.
Scope
Freight for the sector, not oilfield services
Midtrans Shipping And Services moves oil and gas equipment, spare parts and project materials: collection from the supplier, export documentation, sea, air and road transport, Syrian customs clearance, interim storage and delivery to the site.
We do not provide oilfield operations, drilling, well services, offshore support, installation, commissioning or engineering, and nothing on this page should be read as such. The same boundary applies on our energy and utilities page.

Equipment
The equipment we move
Rotating and flow equipment: pumps, compressors, valves, actuators and motors. Static equipment: pressure vessels, separators, tanks, heat exchangers and columns. Pipe and tubulars: line pipe, casing and tubing (OCTG), fittings and flanges. Packaged units: skid-mounted pumping, metering and compression packages. Instrumentation and control: transmitters, analysers, control panels and cable.
Drilling-related spare parts, such as bits, drill pipe and rig components, are moved as cargo only; we do not operate or service rigs.

Pipe and OCTG
Long, heavy and easily damaged at the ends
Depending on length and quantity, pipe and tubulars travel in 40-foot containers, on flat racks or as breakbulk. Thread protectors stay on, bundles are strapped and dunnaged, and the mill certificates and heat numbers are matched to the packing list so the receiving inspection can trace each joint.
Coated pipe needs its coating protected at every lift and lashing point, and the handling instructions travel with the cargo to the Syrian port.
- Container, flat rack or breakbulk
- Thread protectors checked
- Heat numbers on the packing list
- Mill certificates in the file
Project cargo
Heavy-lift and project shipments
Pressure vessels, columns, compressor trains and large skids are planned from the manufacturer's drawings: weights, dimensions, centre of gravity, lifting points and saddles. That data decides between flat rack, breakbulk on a conventional vessel and RoRo on MAFI trailers, and it decides the inland route at both ends.
Road permits, escorts, the crane at the port and the unloading plan at the site are part of the plan, not an afterthought. See project cargo and heavy-lift shipping

Dangerous goods
Regulated materials in oil and gas cargo
Oil and gas shipments often include regulated material: chemicals and additives, paints and coatings, compressed gas cylinders, batteries inside instruments, and used equipment that may still carry hydrocarbon residue. Some measuring and logging tools contain radioactive sources, which are Class 7 and need specific approvals and carriers.
Each such item needs its safety data sheet, UN number where applicable, correct packing and marking, and carrier acceptance before booking. Used equipment should be cleaned and declared free of residue, with a certificate where the carrier asks for one. See dangerous goods.

Syrian ports
Tartous for breakbulk, Latakia or Tartous for containers
Breakbulk and heavy pieces are generally routed to Tartous. Containerised equipment and flat racks can go to Latakia or Tartous, depending on the carrier. Where a direct Syrian call does not fit the cargo, transhipment through Mersin, Beirut, Aqaba or Jebel Ali followed by road is an option.
Berth, crane and storage availability are checked for each heavy piece before the vessel is fixed. See Tartous port logistics and Latakia port logistics.

Export controls
Export controls on oil and gas equipment
Much oil and gas equipment is not export-controlled, but some is. From the United States, EAR99 items can generally go to Syria under License Exception Syria Peace and Prosperity, while items on the Commerce Control List need a licence, and some process equipment is on that list. Canadian and European exporters check their own control lists in the same way.
We ask for the classification in writing, screen the parties and the end use, and plan the shipment around any licence. The current US and Canadian position is summarised on the USA to Syria and Canada to Syria pages.
- Classification in writing
- Licence where required
- Parties screened
- End use confirmed
Customs and documents
The documents that clear equipment in Syria
Syrian clearance of equipment depends on a clear technical description. The invoice should name the equipment, the model and the manufacturer's part numbers; the packing list should map each case to its contents with weights and dimensions; and the data sheets, drawings and inspection or conformity certificates should travel with the file. Used equipment needs its age and condition stated.
Where equipment enters for a project and will leave Syria again, the temporary-import route is checked with the Syrian customs authority before shipment. Our Damascus office prepares the file; duties, taxes and permits are confirmed with the authority and the appointed broker before shipment. See customs clearance in Syria.

Rates and transit times are indicative and confirmed at booking. Export-control examples on this page are general, were last reviewed on 11 September 2026, and do not replace the exporter's own classification and licence decisions.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Do you provide oilfield services?
No. We move oil and gas equipment, spare parts and project materials as freight. We do not provide drilling, well services, offshore support, installation, commissioning or engineering.
Which oil and gas equipment can you ship to Syria?
Pumps, valves, compressors, pipe and OCTG, skids, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, instrumentation and drilling-related spare parts, by container, flat rack, breakbulk or air, subject to technical review and export checks.
Which Syrian port is used for heavy equipment?
Breakbulk and heavy pieces are generally routed to Tartous. Containerised equipment can go to Latakia or Tartous, or through Mersin, Beirut, Aqaba or Jebel Ali and on by road.
Does oil and gas equipment need an export licence for Syria?
Some does. From the United States, equipment classified EAR99 can generally go under License Exception Syria Peace and Prosperity, while items on the Commerce Control List, such as some process equipment, need a licence. We ask for the classification in writing before booking.
Can used equipment be shipped?
Yes, subject to checks. Used equipment should be cleaned and declared free of hydrocarbon residue, and its age and condition stated on the invoice, because both the carrier and Syrian customs will ask.
What do you need for a quote?
The equipment list with weights and dimensions, drawings or photos, the export classification, the pickup address, the site location in Syria and the ready date.
